Occupational Certificate: Safety, Health and Quality Practitioner– SAQA ID 99714
COURSE BACKGROUND
Occupational health and safety experts help to identify, prevent and minimize dangerous situations in a work environment which can lead to accidents causing disabilities, deaths, and even long-term impacts on the health of workers. They help organizations develop processes that are safer and more efficient.
If you pursue a career in this field, you might design programs to control, eliminate or prevent health problems caused by chemical, physical, or biological agents. You might advise organizations about using more ergonomically designed equipment or furniture. You might conduct occupational safety inspections or evaluate how well employers adhere to laws, regulations, or policies designed to protect their workers’ health and safety.
Duration of the course
It is one year course with 3 intakes per year that is January, June, and September.
National Examination
Learners will write national exams after completing the course. Exams are written in March and October/November every year.
This qualification is made up of the following compulsory Knowledge and Practical Skill Modules:
Knowledge Modules:
• Fundamentals of Occupational Health and Safety.
• Fundamentals of Communication.
• Occupational Health and Safety applications.
• Occupational Health and Safety Management.
• Operations Management and Supervision.
Practical Skill Modules:
• Represent the needs of employees with regard to Occupational Health and Safety matters,
• Inspect workplaces, identify hazards and risks, and take immediate action to ensure health and safety in the workplace,
• Consult with employees and raise their needs and issues.
• Inspect workplaces and environments to identify occupational health and safety hazards and determine the risks associated with the work,
• Coordinate the work activities of Occupational Health and Safety representatives.
• Develop a risk profile and legal register for a designated work area,
• Establish, maintain, and improve the health and safety documentation and reporting systems, controls, and processes.
• Advise on the establishment maintenance and improvement of emergency response and preparedness,
• Manage the effectiveness of operational Occupational Health and Safety systems.
Work Experience Modules:
• Exposure to the workplace examination processes.
• Exposure to the processes of representing the Occupational Health and Safety needs of employees.
• Exposure to Occupational Risk Management processes.
• Exposure to the processes of selecting, appointing and managing Occupational Health and Safety representatives.
• Exposure to the processes of developing and implementing Occupational Health and Safety systems.
• Exposure to the processes of monitoring and improving Occupational Health and Safety systems.
NB: FEES INCLUDE STUDY MATERIALS, UNIFORM (t-shirt & cap/hat), STUDENT CARD & NAMETAG.
Learners who have passed National Examination will be awarded Occupational Certificate: Safety, Health and Quality Practitioner (Occupational Health and Safety Practitioner by Quality Council.
